Sunshine Blogger Award

I was pleasantly surprised and honored to be nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award!  It is given by other bloggers to their fellow bloggers whom they feel display positivity, creativity, and sunshine with their writing.

My blogging friend Carol Hopkins nominated me, and she blesses us all with her poetry and storytelling.  You should really check out her blog.

The Rules:

  1.  Thank the blogger who nominated you;
  2.  Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you;
  3.  Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions;
  4.  List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post/or on your blog.

Here are the questions Carol sent me.  She asked a lot of hard questions. 🙂

1.) What is your favorite thing to write about?

I like to write about different things.  But I do think the things I like most, at least recently, have been writing about my travels, hikes in the wilderness, the beauty and spirit in this world.  Writing about these things, or telling old stories, is tapping into my creative side.  Much more so than my other writing, which can cover a wide range of topics.

2.) What makes you very happy?

Being out in Nature.  I still chase butterflies.

3.) What makes you feel angry?

Not much makes me angry anymore.  You might say I’ve outgrown it.  Anger is the worst emotion and is really poisonous.  If I chase back the roots of any anger I’ve had, it’s usually related to something for which I’m at fault, in some way or another.  Although there are a few things others in my life have done out of self-centeredness that I will leave unmentioned.  Those things did anger me.  There was no call for them.  But that’s the past.

If I find myself getting agitated now, I stop myself and ask why?  I usually find there is no good answer, so I don’t get angry.

4.) What experience changed your life or was a pivotal turning point?

There have been several pivotal turning points.  Both marriages.  Both divorces.  The birth of my daughter.  Career changes.  The first event that spun things out of control for a while was getting arrested for doing some pretty dumb shit.  Ended up dropping out of college, losing my job, living in my car and bumming around the country.  That was a huge learning experience.  A good one.  Grew up a little then, but not too much.  🙂

5.) What is your biggest fear?

Getting tough again.  My biggest fear is that my daughter, her generation and those after,  are going to have to endure the results of us destroying the planet.  Hand-in-hand with that, of course, is the fear that people will never turn away from the current focus on short-term profits and exploitation that have resulted in the environmental destruction.  And not just the physical either.  The mental and emotional states of people right now scare me because so many are exploiting other people in some fashion for personal gain.

At times, it seems people have lost sight of their larger communities, and that they’re being taught to be quite selfish.

6.) What advice would you give to people younger than you are?

Find yourself.  Your true spirit.  You won’t find that in a book, either.  Go out and have some adventures.  Traveling is a great educator.  Learn to love and appreciate all life.

7.) What is the source of your inspiration?

Back to Nature again.

8.) What would you like to change about yourself?

Not that much.  I’m pretty content.  But I would like to be a little stronger and not fall victim to fear. Fear gets us all at some point, even in small ways, but it can restrict our growth and experience in big ways.  I’ve missed out on some great opportunities simply because I let self-doubt get in the way.

9.) Which of your character traits are you grateful for?

LOL!  My sense of humor, even if others don’t always get it.  My ability to love unconditionally.  My honesty.  My curiosity.  Refusing to totally grow up. 🙂

10.) Where would you most like to live?

In a perfect world, I’d live half of the year in the mountains, Northwest US, and half in the desert, Southwest US.

11.) What are you most passionate about?

Tough again.  I’m not sure I can answer this in any other way, but again, being in Nature.  Every particle of life has something to teach us.  Everything has spirit.  You just have to open up to see it and receive that timeless knowledge.

Here’s where I break the rules.  I’ll not nominate any of my favorite bloggers in particular, at least not yet, I nominate anyone following me who wishes to respond.  Consider it a writing prompt.

It’s a good way to explore yourself when you answer the questions, and it’s a good way to explore other blogs too.  Go to the Reader and search “Awards.”  Have fun.

I’m not always good at following rules. 🙂

My questions for anyone:

These are the same ones I picked for other awards, but I like them.

  • What is the title of the book you are going to write?
  • What is your favorite pet?
  • What is your favorite dessert?
  • If you’re doing the cooking, what’s for dinner?
  • What is your favorite poem?
  • Who is your favorite author?
  • If you could have a “do-over” in your life, what would you change?
  • What is your favorite travel destination and why?
  • Who is your favorite movie character?
  • If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for?
  • If you could commit a crime, and knew you would get away with it, what would it be?
